Disney and UNICEF Collaborate for Star Wars: Force for Change

Disney and Lucasfilm have recently teamed up with Bad Robot and Omaze.com to support the Star Wars: Force for Change campaign, a charitable initiative benefitting UNICEF. The campaign will raise awareness and funds for UNICEF’s Innovation Labs and other projects that benefit those in need. Contributions can be made until July 25th at 11:59 p.m.

UNICEF is a major charitable organization that has worked tirelessly to improve children’s lives across the globe. In the past, UNICEF has deployed low-cost water hand-pumps to rural communities, helped reunite families affected by natural disasters, and provided a means of education for those without electricity. The organization’s fourteen Innovation Labs work to develop solutions for the serious issues facing the world’s children today, ranging from nutrition to health and education. All money raised through the Star Wars: Force for Change will help improve the lives of these children through several projects, including MobiStation, which helps children obtain quality learning, and Rapid Family Tracing and Reunification, which helps reunite children and their families following natural disasters.

Star Wars: Force for Change raised over one million dollars within the first 24 hours of its launch. The campaign is now in its final week, and according to Star Wars director J.J. Abrams, fans from over 119 countries have already shown support for the initiative. Disney alone has given $1 million in support of the Star Wars: Force for Change campaign. During the initiative’s final week, Abrams announced that as an additional prize for those who donate, participants will be able to see the movie early. Furthermore, any contribution made by July 25th will give the participant a chance to be in the upcoming film, Star Wars: Episode VII.

The potential grand prize winner of the Star Wars: Force for Change, and a guest of his or her choosing, will receive airfare and accommodations to London, behind the scenes access on the Star Wars: Episode VII set as VIP, the opportunity to meet cast members, and a complete makeup and costume transformation, followed by their being filmed for a scene in the movie.

If you want to participate in Star Wars: Force for Change before the deadline, visit Omaze.com/StarWars for more information about how to contribute and possibly win the grand prize. The minimum donation for potential winnings is $10.

As explained by UNICEF, “Star Wars continues to inspire generations of dreamers and doers to use their creativity to accomplish great things. Star Wars and Lucasfilm were built on the belief that in uniting creativity with innovation, you can make the impossible possible.” By contributing to the Star Wars: Force for Change campaign, the benefits extend beyond the individual to communities across the globe.
