Lights, Camera, Action at 52nd NYFF

The 52nd New York film festival starts rolling this Friday, September 26th and wraps up on October 12th, 2014.  The main slate movies this year has been placed with some of the most notable and talented filmmakers such as David Fincher, Paul Thomas Anderson, Alejandro G. Iñarritu, Jean-Luc Godard and many more.  There are some special events offered as well, with notably “Dinner with Mr. Richard Gere”, and NYFF live talks with a few directors. 

The tickets for these main slate movies has already been sold out at the Alice Tully Hall’s box office.  “Gone Girl” by David Fincher, a version of Gillian Flynn’s bestseller, “Inherent Vice” by Paul Thomas Anderson, an adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon novel, “Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance” by Alejandro G. Iñarritu, “CitizenFour” by Laura Poitras, the story unveiling Edward Snowden’s journey and “Goodbye to Language” by Jean-Luc Godard who has his dog Roxy perform for him in his 43rd feature which is shot in 3-D are some of movies to lookout for. Whiplash by Damien Chazelle is a pedagogical thriller about a Jazz drummer has a few tickets left for purchase for the Monday, September 29 show at 6pm.  Get your hands on the tickets now to feel the NYFF festivities.  Alice Tally Hall’s members get the tickets for a price of 20$ and non-members for 25$.

Special event consists of #AnEveningWithRichardGere.  That’s right, it’s with the actor himself, the evening consists of cocktails at 6pm, dinner at 7 pm and this event will be focused on work, life and the intersection of the two.  The tickets pricing for this special is just 2000$ and it comes with a memorable time.  Few tickets are still available at this moment.

For the ones who missed out on the movies you can attend free NYFF live talks with directors. Mathieu Amalric, director of the “The Blue Moon”  will be talking on Monday, September 29th at 6 pm. Pedro Costa, the director from “Horse Money” will talk on Wednesday, October 8 at 6pm, Mike Leigh, director from “Mr. Turner” on Sunday, October 5 at 2:30pm.  All of the talks will take place in Walter Reade Theater and Bennett Miller “Foxcatcher” Tuesday, October 7  at 6:30pm will take place in Francesca Beale Theater.  These talks include Q&A by audience and illustration of the directors own inspirations with some of the film clips.  The tickets are available one hour before the opening of each event. 

If you really need to grab the seats, the lines start piling up hours before the show time begins at the reported venues. 

The New York Film Festival is having its 52nd run and has film personalities from all over the world.  The main slate movies, documentaries, short films, special events etc. are all to be looked forward to beginning this Friday, September 26th. So, let’s keep the spirits high and let the actions begin.
